High school biology is a comprehensive course designed to meet the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), providing students with a strong foundation in the study of living organisms and the natural world. Through an inquiry-based approach, the course covers topics such as cell structure and function, genetics and heredity, evolution, and anatomy and physiology of animals, while emphasizing the crosscutting concepts of patterns, cause and effect, and systems and models. Students will explore the interdependence of living organisms in ecosystems, as well as the impact of human activities on the environment, aligning with the NGSS disciplinary core ideas of ecosystems, heredity, and biological evolution. Through hands-on laboratory activities, students will develop their skills in data analysis, experimental design, and scientific communication, meeting the NGSS science and engineering practices. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of the biological principles that shape our world and be prepared for further studies in the life sciences, aligning with the NGSS science and engineering crosscutting concepts of science as a human endeavor and the relationship between science and society.

"We are drowning in information, while starving for wisdom. The world henceforth will be run by synthesizers, people able to put together the right information at the right time, think critically about it, and make important choices wisely." -- E.O. Wilson
